Our indigo tie dye DIY kit includes 200g indigo mud, 15g mordant, 15g alkaline agent, rubber gloves, clips, rubber bands, glass marbles, wood boards, threads, and a user's guide, which could make 5L indigo dye solution for 2 white T-shirts and some small items.
How to make dye solution:
Mix 200g indigo mud, 15g mordant with 1.5L warm water and stir well. Then, add 15g alkaline agent and stir clockwise for 15 mins. Wait for 30 mins until the dye solution changes to green color, then add 3.5 L water stirring for 15 minutes. When the liquid becomes yellow green means dyeing effective.
Our indigo mud comes from Persicaria tinctoria, which is a flowering plant, common names include Chinese indigo and Japanese indigo. The leaves contain the natural blue pigment, which decomposes when met with water, and turns into indigo after oxidation. The alkaline agent added into, helps the color out.
